At 12 years-old, Sylwia Kapuscinski and her twin sister immigrated from Poland to the United States. Sylwia studied photojournalism and advertising photography at Rochester Institute of Technology where she received her BFA.  

Sylwia's work focuses on refugee and immigrant communities and on underrepresented and misrepresented people. She has worked as a staff photographer at Detroit Free Press, Naples Daily News, and as an intern at National Geographic Magazine and Concord Monitor. Her work has been published in The New York Times, The New York Times Magazine, Double Take, Wall Street Journal, Smithsonian, U.S. News and World Report, Ladies Home Journal, and many others throughout the world. 

She has received awards from World Press Photo, Pictures of The Year, The Best of Photojournalism, Society for News Design, The Association for Women in Communications, Scripps Howard Publishing, The Michigan Press Photographers Association, Florida Press Club, Florida Society of Newspaper Editors, and New Jersey Press Photographers Association. 

Sylwia lives with her family in New Jersey.
